Who we are
Hi, I’m Brett Cassidy, owner and operator of Tonewood Tree Care.
I’m a fifth-generation Portlander, and I’ve always felt most at home immersed in natural spaces—whether climbing trees, moving through mountain terrain, or finding quiet focus outdoors. Those experiences shaped how I see my work today: trees aren’t obstacles or amenities, they’re living systems we share space with.
I believe our urban and suburban landscapes can support thriving ecosystems, and that the built and natural environments don’t have to be in conflict. Tonewood exists to help people tune into their backyard ecology—to learn what’s growing, how it’s changing, and how to support it over time.
I hold an MBA from Portland State University and bring a combination of technical skill, planning, and respect to every job. I prune in accordance with the International Society of Arboriculture’s Best Management Practices and collaborate with ISA Certified Arborists when required to meet your landscape goals while supporting long-term tree health and safety.
When I’m not working, I’m usually trail running, playing bass, or heading out on van trips with my wife Gillian, our daughters, and our dog, Biscuit—usually to somewhere alive, dynamic and worth paying attention to.
